and Evaluation for Financial Literacy
Method
The
organizers used some methods for M & E of the training.
For
example, interviews, observation, small group discussion
The
purpose of the interviews was to get feedback from the women on:
- · They had really enjoyed about the training
- · They said that the training was useful for them
- · Some trainees could follow their saving plans
- · They believed that they would be able to apply what they have learnt for improving their lives.
Summary Evaluation
This Financial Literacy training evaluation was taken
by WH students, Zoaw Htaw and Cherry Win on February 22, 2016 at Gate 14. Zoaw
Htaw and Cherry Win leaded the small group discussion with 7 participants for
knowing the result of the training. Furthermore, we also did individual
interview with 2 participants. The rest of participants are not able to join
our small group discussion because they are busy with their works.
Furthermore, regarding to our interviewing and small
group discussion, we found that participants were really happy and blissful to
enjoy Financial Literacy training. The training was very useful for them
because it connected with their daily life. Moreover, the training's purposes
are matching with their action. One participant who called Ko Htet Naing Htew
said, “This training creates not only a knowledge for us but also shows and
gives vision how to jumping forward for our future.”
According to our interview, all of them were followed
their saving plans by different ways in order to arrive their goal.
Furthermore, they are able to apply the knowledge that they learnt from
training. Some of participants are still ongoing to arrive goal. Finally, we,
organizers, observed some people were very happy because they got the materials
which they hope for their goal.

According to Ko Thet Naing Htwe, He can save money
amount that he was supposing to wish. However, he had some family's problems so
he had to spent some money for their family. And we have known that some were a

for them. Nonetheless, they would try as much as they could according on the
interview. In fact, all participants are following the saving plans based on
the training. Also, we realized that the training brought many benefits for the
community.

Background
Problem Statement
Bicycles
are the basic needs for transportation which will perform WH students' daily
errands for carrying out their work. However, there are not enough bicycles for
24 students in Wide Horizons school to carry out their school projects and to
perform their daily errands. There are currently 14 bicycles and just only 6
bicycles are working. Moreover, 9 bicycles are possible to fix because they
have just some broken parts for repairing.
However,
based on the bicycle problems, students cannot manage their time for their
daily errands and the school projects. Consequently, students are arguing each
other when they go the market and while they go to their school projects.
Moreover, they cannot come back on time when they go to the school projects and
when they go to the market because they face many problems during cycling such
as flatting wheel and broken chain.
In
fact, they do not have funds for fixing the bicycles to solve their problems.
Finally, 4 students claim that they feel very shy during cycling to the market
and the school projects because of broken bicycles.
Solution (Project)
To
overcome these problems, WH students would like to repair 6 broken bicycles for
performing their daily errands and the school projects in the different
communities. They will buy the bicycle materials for 6 broken bicycles to solve
the problems by chaining broken, tube, tyre, bell, basket and pedal.
Therefore,
WH students bought the bicycle materials and they fixed the broken bicycles
during Feb 8 to 10, 2016, by replacing tubes, tyres, baskets and pedals. Even
the students proposed to fix 6 bicycles, in fact, they fixed 12 bicycles during
implementation because the materials prices are cheap and most organizers have
fixing bicycle skill. After the project, WH students receive 14 bicycles.
They
hoped that this project will cover their problems for performing their daily
errands and carrying out their school projects. Furthermore, they hope that it
also will benefit to upcoming students who will perform their works.
Findings
Current Situation
On
20 February 2016, 2 WH students' organizers observe the bicycles and interview
4 students to know about the result of the project. Furthermore, the organizers
lead the small group discussion with 5 representatives of students about the
project. From the interview, they found that the project solved the problem for
the WH students. However, 2 bicycles have no air because the tubes are not
good. According to the interview, 4 students said, "12 bicycles are
working and we feel very satisfied about the project because now we have enough
bicycles for all students for performing our daily errands and to carry out our
school projects. Then, we do not need to argue each other during. Moreover, we
also use these bicycle for cycling by doing exercise at the weekends."
Based
on our small group discussion, 1 of 5 students reported that, "I feel
happy and comfortable about the project because before we fix the bicycles, I
have argument with my friends for marking and going project. After the project,
I have no argument anymore because there are enough bicycles for everyone.
Also, a group of 4 use bicycles for cooking duty and just only a group of 6 for
project is using bicycle but just sometimes. We have more extra bicycles so
even I want to relax at the evening I can take bicycle for relaxing."
Finally,
they also inspected the bicycles that there are currently 12 bicycles are
working and 2 have some problems like broken tubes. However, the organizers
notice that those bicycles are replaced from the old bicycles during
implementation.
Challenges/ Problem
2
students reported, "even we pump the air, it just left for 2 or 3 hours
and it flat again. So we cannot use these two bicycles for marking and going
project." According to the organizers inspection, the possible problem is
instead of using new tubes, they replaced the old tubes from the old bicycles.
This is why they cannot last for a long time.
Plan and Expectations
Currently,
all organizers, assistant coordinator and coordinator who have fixing bicycles
skills are living in the school. So if they face other problems such as chain,
break and pedal problems, they will repair because they have some extra
bicycles materials. Furthermore, the upcoming students will be able to fix by
getting help from the coordinator if the bicycles have some problems.
Methodology and Evaluation Questions
Methodology
The
project monitoring and evaluation were taken by 2 WH students who are project
organizers. They interview 4 students and lead 5 people with small group
discussion to know the result of the project on Feb 20-21, 2016. Moreover, they
also inspected and observed the fixing bicycles after they finished interview
and small group discussion, and they took many photos for results. Belows are
the questions that we had planned to use in the interview.

Problem statement
Lack
of weekend activities is the main problem for unparented children who live in SAW
Safe House. There are no long-term volunteer to conduct activities for the
children and they do not have enough playing materials to conduct activities.
The old materials are broken because there are less staff to take care of
playing materials. Due to that children are fighting each other about the game
materials and they bully and misunderstand each other. Furthermore, staff are
very busy with their daily responsibilities, therefore they are not able to
play with the children. According to interview with staff, at least 2 children
are getting injuries per week. Furthermore, 5 children claim that they feel
bored and miserable because of activity. Children are playing dangerous games
such as following each other and catching by running in the road. So, 20 out of
45 children want to read books in weekend.
Project
To
solve this problem, WH students introduce 4 sessions of weekend activities in
every Saturday started from 13 February to 5 March 2016 for 45 children ages
between 6 and 13 to improve their physical and mental abilities while having
fun. Children will be less bully and will encourage each other to play safe
games. They will get new game materials, sport materials and story books such
as dual language books (Thai to English and English to Thai) from this project.
Moreover, children will be able to promote team work with a good relationship
each other while they are playing the games.
Thus,
8 students from WH conducted weekend activities with the children at SAW Safe
House. We conducted 4 days weekend activities on 20, 21, 27 February and 5
March 2016. We bought 4 types of materials such as dual-language books,
exercise materials, sport materials and game materials. In game materials, we
delivered problem solving game (domino, four connect), board game (snake &
ladders, mix up words) and educational game (flash card words, time telling
clock) to unparented children. Averagely about 29 children joined at activity
daily.
